A welcome ceremony was held in Kazanlak Wednesday for the Bulgarian military contingent returning from mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Bulgarian service persons were part of the multinational battalion in EU's operation ALTEA. Among the official guests at the ceremony were Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Mikhail Popov, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces Command Brigadier General Hristo Ganetsovski, and local officials.

"It comes as no surprise to anyone in the Armed Forces that the representative unit of the 61 Mechanized Brigade performed well during the mission and maintained the level shown by those before them," Popov said in his address. He added that any experience from such a mission is valuable in every respect for officers, sergeants and soldiers alike.

The tasks that the troops performed during the mission were both routine and quite different from the standard tasks that are carried out in the everyday life of the Bulgarian army, Brigadier General Ganetsovsky explained to journalists. He stressed that the training and participation of our contingents abroad is a responsible task, which proves that our country is a loyal ally in NATO and the EU, and Bulgarian servicemen can perform any planned or unplanned tasks.

The ceremony ended with the awarding of the contingent members.
