The head of the Migration Directorate of the Interior Ministry's Regional Directorate in Razgrad has been arrested for corruption, the Razgrad regional prosecution office and the Interior Ministry told BTA Monday.

Pavel Marinov has been arrested as part of an operation of the Interior Ministry's Internal Security Directorate. Razgrad's Regional Prosecutor Tihomir Todorov said that Marinov was arrested shortly before noon on Monday in his office.

Further information about the case, which his supervised by the Razgrad Regional Prosecution Office, will be provided on Tuesday morning in front of the prosecuting magistracy's building in the northeastern Bulgarian town, Todorov said.

The prosecuting magistracy said later in the day that four more people have been arrested as part of the same operation and one is currently wanted.
Two of the arrested suspects were searching for candidates to get Type D long-term multiple entry visas.

The two also found addresses where the foreign nationals could register themselves, without actually residing there. In his capacity as head of the local police's Migration Directorate, Pavel Marinov was supposed to check if the foreigners in question were actually living in the given addresses, which the senior police officer neglected to do, the prosecution office said. The other two arrested suspects are women who provided translation services.
