Naval Vessels Open to Visitors in Varna and Burgas for Navy Day Celebrations

Naval vessels and equipment will be open to the public in the Black Sea cities of Varna and Burgas on the occasion of the 144th anniversary of the Bulgarian Navy, the Defence Ministry said. Visitors are welcome between 2 pm and 8 pm on August 12 at the Marine Stations of both cities, and on August 13 between 10.30 am and 6 pm at Varna's Marine Station and between 1.30 pm and 6 pm at Burgas's Marine Station.

On Saturday, 432 graduates of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna will be awarded diplomas in the presence of Deputy Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov. Logistics graduate Gergana Dimitrova is the valedictorian. In the evening, a concert will be staged for the Navy's anniversary. The Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, will open the event, and Defence Minister Todor Tagarev and the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, will address the Navy personnel and present awards.

Sunday will see the raising of the flags of the Navy and the naval vessels. Defence Minister Tagarev, Admiral Eftimov and the Naval Academy Rector, Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov, will address the young officers who will get their first shoulder boards.

Navy Day is marked on August 12 when the Danubian Flotilla was established in Ruse in 1879. The flotilla comprised 11 vessels donated by Russia.
