Interior Ministry, Prosecution Set Up Joint Unit for Countering Drug Distribution, Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration

The Interior Ministry and the prosecution service set up a specialized intergovernmental unit to aid work on pretrial proceedings in connection to drug distribution, human trafficking and illegal migration, the prosecution said on Friday.

Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov signed an order for the setting up of the unit. It will comprise prosecutors of the Supreme |Cassation

Prosecution Office, senior officers of the General Directorate for National Police and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime. The unit will implement monitoring over cases, case files and pre-trial proceedings and will submit a monthly report to the Prosecutor General and the Interior Minister.

With a view to the prevention of drug distribution in partnership with the Education Ministry will carry out instructions of students, teachers, parents and security companies at schools.
On July 19, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that the Council of Ministers will set up a coordination mechanism for countering drug distribution. The new coordination mechanism will complement the work of the National Drugs Council and will focus on large distributors.
