President Rumen Radev on Thursday talked by phone with Israeli President Issac Herzog, Radev’s press secretariat said. The two state leaders rallied around the idea about the key prospects for the development of bilateral relations, which have been upgraded to strategic partnership in areas of mutual interest such as economy, energy, investments, tourism, education and security.

Radev and Herzog were unanimous that the historic friendship between the two peoples, consolidated by the rescue of Bulgaria Jews during World War II, is a solid foundation for the all round development of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Israel. These special relations become even more important in the conditions of the present dynamics of regional and global processes. They also provide a secure shield against all encroachments on the historical memory and truth, and deflect any negative instances of hate speech xenophobia and modern forms of anti-Semitism, the two state leaders were adamant.

Radev invited his Israeli counterpart to visit Bulgaria this year, as his visit will help advance the political dialogue at the highest level.

President Radev familiarized his counterpart with the national programme of events and initiatives for marking the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgaria Jews during World War II, which is taking place under Radev’s auspices.

In March the anniversary was marked by a number of processions, exhibitions and ceremonies.
