Four ministers - of interior, of labour and social policy, of justice and of education and science - will present measures against aggression at a news conference on Thursday, the government information service said. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov will attend the event.

On August 2, Denkov asked those ministers to propose anti-aggression measures. They had one week to identify dysfunctional mechanisms in their areas of responsibility and indicate what needs to be done, including in systems outside the executive, so as to reverse the negative tendency.

This move was prompted by an act of violence against an 18-year-old girl in the southern town of Stara Zagora and rallies in support of the victim. The MPs interrupted their summer recess on Monday to revise the Penal Code and the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act. The amendments toughen the punishments for bodily injury and extend the range of persons falling within the scope of the law.
