In a statement on Saturday, the Vazrazhdane party says it will insist that a monument to US World War 2 pilots in Sofia be dismounted.

Vazrazhdane argues that the monument is a disgrace for the incumbent as it celebrates those who are responsible for the killings of Bulgarians.

In the statement they say that between October 18, 1943, and April 17, 1944, British-American bombings killed 4208, injured another 4,744 and destroyed 12,657 buildings, including the building of Parliament, causing damages worth billions of leva.

Earlier in the week, the government took steps to facilitate the dismounting of a monument to the Soviet Army in central Sofia.

Vazrazhdane said that it will organize patrols of volunteers to protect the Monument to the Soviet Army.
