Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic Wednesday said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had requested to meet with him during his upcoming stay in New York, where Vucic will take part in the UN General Assembly. The head of State made this announcement during his multi-day working visit to Japan, Serbian public broadcaster RTS reported.
The Serbian President expressed hope "that it will be possible to resolve the US tariffs issue."
"Ten minutes ago, I received a message saying that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has requested a meeting with me. This is an opportunity to discuss that. I will also try to hold talks with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, because these sanctions are important for us," Vucic added.
Vucic said that he was very pleased with the talks that the Serbian delegation had held with both Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
"I think we did a good job here in Japan. I am proud of my country. I am grateful to the people who took care of the preparations. I am grateful to our embassy here; it is doing a good job. And I am grateful to the people who put up such a nice pavilion at Osaka Expo, as we rarely have the opportunity to present ourselves in Japan and be remembered. [Serbian footballer] Dragan Stojkovic is still immensely popular here, and I would say he is the biggest name that the Japanese remember," Vucic said at the end of his visit to Japan.
