site.btaNew Series of Protests by Health Workers in Romania

A new series of protests, organised by the Romanian trade union Health Solidarity, are to take place in Bucharest on Thursday. The first demonstration will be in front of the Health Ministry between noon and 1:30 pm, the second will be between 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm in front of the Labour Ministry. The two ministries are located a few hundred metres apart. More than 300 people are expected to turn up.

The discontented say Thursday's protest action is the last they will hold on the streets with a small number of people. On February 29 they will continue with a "lunch break protest", which they describe as a rehearsal for a general strike. It is planned for March 11, the National Day of Medical Staff, and the strikers will gather for a rally in Bucharest's Victoria Square.
