President Rumen Radev expressed his condolences for the victims of the shootout in northern Kosovo and his concern over the escalation of tension in Kosovo during a telephone conversation with his Kosovar counterpart Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the Bulgarian presidency press service reported on Sunday.
The two presidents agreed that there is a need for responsibility on all sides for de-escalation and risk reduction, which is in the interest of both the citizens of Kosovo and the international peacekeeping mission of NATO KFOR, whose members include Bulgarian personnel.
A Kosovar Albanian police officer was gunned down, and another was wounded by some 30 gunmen in northern Kosovo on Sunday, Reuters reported. The assailants then barricaded themselves in a monastery in the village of Banjska. Three of them were killed in the following shooting with the police.
