In the early hours on Tuesday, rescuers finally managed to pull out American speleologist Mark Dickey from the third deepest cave in Turkiye, after over a week, reported the Turkish Speleological Federation, quoted by DPA.
Dickey was part an international research team exploring Morca cave in southern Turkiye. On September 2, he suffered a stomach hemorrhage while he was at a depth of 1,250 metres.
The American scientist was pulled out of the cave at 00:37 local time on Tuesday (21:37 GMT, Monday).
"Thus, the cave rescue part of the operation has been successfully completed. We congratulate everyone who contributed to this," the Turkish Speleological Federation said in a statement.
Turkish and international teams, including a total of 19 Bulgarian rescuers, participated in the rescue operation of the American speleologist.
The European Cave Rescue Association said the man was taken out on a stretcher and will be transferred to a hospital after a medical examination.
Many rescuers remained in the cave to remove "significant quantities" of ropes and equipment used during the operation.
The European association expressed "huge gratitude to the many cave rescuers from seven different countries who contributed to the success of this rescue operation".
