Mothers of Disabled Children,
Ombudsman,
Slam Draft Bill on People with Disabilities

Sofia, August 10 (BTA) - Mothers of children with disabilities and National Ombudsman Maya Manolova have slammed a draft bill on the people with disabilities. On Friday, Manolova called the bill 'discriminatory' and 'damaging' to many people.

According to a protesting mother, the bill won't take effect for another six month after it is gazetted while the methodology is worked out. This will leave many people without personal care and financial support. She said that the protesting mother of children with disabilities are extremely disappointed with the Labour Minister and with all nationally representative organizations which support the bill as it did not provide for any concrete reforms.

The protesting mothers demanded immediately the resignation of Mincho Koralski, head of the Agency for People with Disabilities and Adriana Stoimenova, chair of the National Council for the Integration of People with Disabilities.

Ombudsman Maya Manolova said that she didnТt see any reforms in he bill and that recommendations were not mandatory. According to her there are no guarantees that personal care will be provided. She was firm that she wouldnТt support the current version of the bill.

Mothers of children with disabilities have been protesting since June with demands
for reforms in the care services for people with disabilities. SN/PP
