Sofia, August 18 (BTA) - In the week ended August 18, the food wholesale market index fell by 0.68 per cent to 1.311 points, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported. Last summer, the index dropped to 1.309 points before starting to edge up, which usually occurs every autumn. Its base level of 1 point was established in 2005.

During the week in review, the average wholesale price of outdoor tomatoes decreased by 9.9 per cent to 1.18 leva/kilogramme. Cucumbers lost 13 per cent to 1.07 leva/kg. Potatoes traded at 0.61 leva/kg. Green peppers lost 13.5 per cent to 0.90 leva/kg and red peppers dropped by 14.4 per cent to 1.43 leva/kg. Carrots went down by 5.9 per cent to 0.80 leva/kg. Courgettes gained 16.3 per cent to 0.93 leva/kg.

The average wholesale price of apples decreased by 7.1 per cent to 1.30 leva/kg. Peaches edged up 2.6 per cent to 1.20 leva/kg. Melons sold at 1.01 leva/kg on average. Grapes slid down by 1.6 per cent to 1.87 leva/kg.

White brined cheese from cow's milk traded at an average of 5.95 leva/kg, up 0.5 per cent on the previous week. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese was selling at 10.00 leva/kg. Sunflower oil dropped by 2.1 per cent to 1.91 leva/litre. Minced meat went up by 0.7 per cent to 4.50 leva/kg. Butter from cow's milk was selling at 2.36 leva for a pack of 125 grams. Frozen chicken gained 1.0 per cent to 4.01 leva/kg. Sugar was selling at 1.06 leva/kg. Type 500 flour gained 1.2 per cent to 0.83 leva/kg. Eggs were available at 0.20 leva a piece at the end of the week. DD
