Parliament to Hold
Extraordinary Sitting
on August 21
Sofia, August 20 (BTA) - National Assembly Chair Tsveta
Karayancheva has convened Bulgaria's Parliament to an
extraordinary sitting at 1:00 p.m. on August 21, the
Parliamentary Press Centre said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the BSP for Bulgaria Parliamentary Group
entered a motion for an extraordinary sitting signed by 61 MPs.
The legislature is in summer recess, and an extraordinary
sitting may be requisitioned by at least 48 MPs.
The agenda, proposed by the Left, includes a draft resolution on
the case of the Olympic Insurance Company Ltd. and a hearing of
the Prime Minister in connection with the crash of the
Commercial Register.
The bankruptcy of the Cyprus-registered insurer left some
200,000 Bulgarians holding compulsory motor third party
liability insurance from it without coverage and in need of
concluding new insurance contracts.
The Commercial Register and the Register of Non-Profit Legal
Entities have been down since August 10 due to a technical
malfunction. Partial operation was restored on Wednesday. SN/LG
