Brussels, September 7 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Bulgaria is among the top performers in terms of increased selection of EU cohesion policy projects, the European Commission reported on Friday. The other top performers are Cyprus, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

Between 2014 and 2020, Bulgaria is receiving 11.7 billion euro from the EU for cohesion activities. The total EU budget in this field is 303 billion euro over the seven-year period.

In Bulgaria, the largest share of cohesion funding goes towards regional development (35.6 per cent), followed by agriculture (24.8 per cent), convergence (22.9 per cent), social affairs (14.7 per cent), youth and fisheries (1 per cent each). Cohesion funding absorption in the country has been growing steadily since 2016, the European Commission said. RY/VE
