Discuss Air Pollution and Climate Change
Warsaw, September 13 (BTA) - Environment Minister Neno Dimov met with his Polish counterpart Henryk Kowalczyk in Warswaw on Thursday.
The two discussed issues on the environment agenda including air pollution and measures to tackle it. The meeting also focused on climate change within the context of the upcoming 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Framework Convention, which will be hosted by Poland.
The talks highlighted the increasing imports of second-hand diesel cars in EU countries with lower per capita incomes as a result of the restrictions imposed on these cars by most west European citizens. Minister Dimov said that a direct ban on the imports won't solve the problem as it will undermine the European single market. A sensible approach will be through a common legislative solution at a EU level which will impose certain retrofitting obligations on exporting countries to make these cars compliant with the latest emissions standards.
Also the two ministers discussed the upcoming climate change conference in Katowice whose aim will be to adopt a package for the full implementation of the Paris agreement. LI/PP
