site.btaPresident Radev: Three Seas Initiative "First Step to Tangible Commitment to Joint Projects"

Bucharest, September 18 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rumen Radev believes that the Tuesday summit meeting of the Three Seas initiative of countries on the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Sea, is the first step to making tangible commitments to joint projects. The President was speaking to the press after addressing the summit meeting in Bucharest and was quoted by his Press Secretariat.

Participating in the forum in the Romanian capital were the heads of State and senior representatives of Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, as well as European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas, and high-ranking representatives of the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

This meeting of the initiative sought to make headway in strengthening transport, energy and digital connectivity.

In his remarks at the forum, President Radev said that the Three Seas countries must agree on the criteria to be used for determining the significance of joint projects and providing financing for them.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said that the Three Seas initiative can be a very useful instrument for development and modernization of the economies of the participating countries.

A business forum was held for the first time on the sidelines of the meeting. It saw the signing of an agreement on cooperation in the establishment of a network of chambers of commerce and industry of the Three Seas countries, and a letter of intent for establishing a Three Seas fund.
