Parliament Chair Karayancheva Confers with
CDU/CSU Chief Rapporteur for Bulgaria and
Romania Loebel


Sofia, September 18 (BTA) - National Assembly Chairperson Tsveta Karayancheva Tuesday conferred with the CDU/CSU Chief Rapporteur for Bulgaria and Romania and Bundestag member, Nikolas Loebel, Parliament said in a press release. Loebel is quoted as saying that the time has come to convince Europe that Bulgaria has fulfilled the membership criteria and can joint the Schengen Area. The guest paid a working visit to Bulgaria and held talks in various institutions.

Loebel said he was impressed with Bulgaria's financial, economic and political stability. He said the EU needs a stable Bulgaria and that the country should be supported in its wish to become part of the Schengen Area.

Karayancheva too said that Bulgaria has fulfilled the criteria to join the Schengen Area and that work continues in fighting corruption and contraband trade, and in the reform of the judicial system.

The guest said that Bulgaria's EU Presidency in January-June 2018 was very successful and showed that Bulgaria is an equal partner in the European family. Karayancheva thanked the German MPs who took an active part in all events organized within the parliamentary dimension of the Bulgarian EU Presidency. She said this is the latest proof of the good cooperation and active dialogue between the Bulgarian Parliament and the German Bundestag. RY/ZH
