Kyustendil, Southwestern Bulgaria, September 19 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency said on Wednesday that a sheep in a private livestock heard in the village of Voukovo has tested positive for brucellosis. The disease is dangerous to both humans and animals. Infected animals should be euthanized immediately under EU legislation.

In addition, the Agency has banned the movements of cattle, small livestock and equidae between farms in the village with the exception of healthy animals intended for immediate slaughter. All large and small livestock and equidae in the region of Kyustendil are inventoried and the movements of small livestock in the village of Voukovo are observed.

All 28 sheep and 21 goats in the village will be tested for brucellosis.

The milk and dairy products available on the infected farm will be destroyed. LI/PP
