October 2 (BTA) - The countries of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) agree
that tourism is becoming increasingly important for the Black
Sea region. The delegates of the PABSEC countries gathered in
Sofia Tuesday for the 51st meeting of the Culture, Education and
 Social Committee of the organization.

Tourism in the countries of the region is in the focus of
discussions.

In her opening address, Bulgarian Parliament Chair Tsveta
Karayancheva said that tourism is among the biggest generators
of revenue. Tourism generates 12 per cent of the GDP in
Bulgaria, added the leader of the Bulgarian delegation to
PABSEC, Peter Kunev.

Deputy Tourism Minister Lyuben Kunchev said that the Black Sea
can be a bridge to enhance cooperation between Europe and Asia.

With its 40,000 monuments of history across the country, over
9,800 places of worship, mineral springs, seaside and mountain
resorts, Bulgaria has a capacity to be a year-round tourist
destination, said Kunchev.

PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev underscored the role
Bulgaria played for this initiative.
