EU's Danube Region

Sofia, October 2 (BTA) - Sofia will be hosting October 18 and 19 the annual forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the Regional Development Ministry said Tuesday. The Ministry is co-organizing the event with the European Commission.

At the end of 2017 this country took over the rotating presidency of the Strategy and the key event during its Presidency will be the annual meeting.

The agenda will be focused on tourism as a driver of economic growth and cohesion. The participants will also discuss the protection of cultural and historical heritage, use of high technologies and digitization of the tourist industry, transport connectivity and mobility.

Among the participants will be EU Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu and Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Commissioner Tibor Navracsics.

Over 700 delegates from the Danube and EU countries are expected to attend, including central and local government officials, business people, researchers and representatives of the NGO sector. RY/LN/
