Foreign Minister Zaharieva:
Bulgaria's Excellent Cooperation
with UNICEF Should Continue

Sofia, October 2 (BTA) - Bulgaria has cooperated excellently with UNICEF and this should continue not just bilaterally but also in the framework of the wider region and the world, Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said during her first meeting with the new UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria, Jane Muita, on Tuesday.

The Foreign Ministry quoted Zaharieva as saying: "The protection and promotion of children's rights is a priority for Bulgaria and a part of all our policies and actions in the field of human rights."

Muita said she already knows a lot about Bulgaria owing to the country's joint initiatives with UNICEF. She said: "You have placed Bulgaria on the world children's rights map. I want to congratulate you for the efforts you have made not only within your country but also globally." The guest said the sharing of experience with Armenia and Georgia has been particularly fruitful.

The UNICEF Representative explained the goals of the new programme for cooperation with Bulgaria in 2018-2022 in the field of early child development, the provision of new services to families of at-risk children, the fight against early school leaving, the juvenile justice reform, the prevention of violence against children, and the monitoring of the children's rights situation. In 2018 and 2019, UNICEF is focusing on suppressing violence at school. LI
