Sofia, October 3 (BTA) - The military cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania is well balanced and develops successfully, the Bulgarian Chief of Staff, General Andrei Botsev, said during a meeting on Tuesday with Chief of the Romanian Land Forces Staff Major General Ovidiu-Liviu Uifaleanu who arrived on a three-day official visit to Bulgaria.

Gen. Botsev and Gen. Uifaleanu discussed the cooperation between the air forces of the two countries under the intergovernmental agreement on cross-border air policing operations and the technical accord to it, as well as the cooperation between the navies and the land forces, in bilateral and regional terms.

Gen. Botsev said that that the bilateral military cooperation also expands within the Readiness Action Plan and the initiative for tailored Forward Presence. He said that Bulgaria has confirmed its participation in the Sea Shield, Poseidon and Cetatea military exercises.

The Romanian guest said that the two countries are firmly committed to continuing the joint work.

Gen. Uifaleanu stressed the contribution of the Bulgarian officers in NATO's Multinational Division South-East whose impressive skills contribute to achieving interoperability.

The two discussed the stages in which Bulgarian units are to join NATO's multinational structures with Romania as lead nation, intended to further improve the preparation for achieving interoperability. Also on the agenda were the challenges in implementing the adaptation of NATO's command structure.

Earlier on Tuesday Gen. Uifaleanu conferred with the Land Forces Commander, Major General Mihail Popov.

The guest is scheduled to visit the 61st Mechanized Brigade in Karlovo, Southern Bulgaria. LY/ZH
