Sofia, October 9 (BTA) - Some 28 per cent of Bulgaria's working-age population had tertiary (higher) education in 2017, which gave them a substantial advantage in terms of quality of life and social status, according to a Eurostat analysis on education levels in the EU. Last year, 31 per cent of the EU's working-age population (ages 25 to 64) possessed a tertiary level of educational attainment.

The highest concentration of persons with tertiary education in Bulgaria was registered in the Southwestern Planning Region (which includes the capital and largest city, Sofia), where 40 per cent of the working-age population had this level of educational attainment. The lowest concentration was found in the Northwestern Region, at 20 per cent.
