Sofia, October 22 (BTA) - Speaking at a news conference after a meeting with employers' organizations here on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov said he is adamantly against raising the maximum contributory monthly income level from 2,600 to 3,000 leva. According to him, such an increase would constitute a serious violation of the governing coalition's election promise, which was to leave taxes untouched during Cabinet's four-year term, and would also hurt profitable businesses.

Simeonov explained that in this particular case the employers had initiated the meeting, which he described as regular.

The Deputy PM added that he and the employers agree about the need to scrap the rule where employers have to pay the first three days of sick leave.

Regarding the People with Disabilities Act amendments, Simeonov and the businesses demand lifting of the quotas obliging employers to hire a certain number of people with disabilities. According to Simeonov, there is such a severe shortage of workers in Bulgaria right now, that no employer would refuse to hire someone with disabilities as long as they are capable of doing the job.
