The cooperation between Bulgaria and the European Defence Agency (EDA) was discussed at a meeting Friday between GERB leader Boyko Borissov and the agency's deputy chief executive, General Andre Denk, the GERB party said in a press release. The meeting was also attended by GERB/EPP MEP Andrey Novakov and the chairman of the National Assembly's Defence Committee, Hristo Gadzhev.
Bulgaria's industrial capacity in defence and the promotion of investment in the development of innovation in the sector were among the main opportunities for joint work identified by Borissov and Denk. During the meeting, economizing and reducing prices of scale in common arms procurement of EU countries were noted as positive trends. Borissov also highlighted Bulgaria's advantages and opportunities in the defence sector.
The two officials also discussed the results of the GERB leader's meeting with the CEO of Rheinmetall earlier this week in Sofia, as well as the opportunities for industrial cooperation between the German company and Bulgarian companies to modernize and expand the capabilities of the EU's industrial base. Borissov and Denk also talked about European security, deeper defence cooperation between member states, and EDA’s leading role in these processes.
