site.btaGERB Leader Meets Head of German Defence Company Rheinmetall

GERB leader Boyko Borissov met the Chair of the Executive Board of Rheinmetall AG Armin Papperger, the press office of the party announced. The leadership of the German automotive and arms manufacturer Rheinmetall is in Sofia on Wednesday for high level talks.

Germany is Bulgaria’s strategic partner and a leading economic investor in the country, Borissov said. “We discussed the possibilities for lasting partnership with the state and local Bulgarian business. Bulgaria has a good foundation in the production of munition, which we could develop and build upon,” the leader of GERB said.

“I will use my time with you to talk about Bulgaria’s geostrategic situation, our place in the European Union, our strengths there, NATO, the Balkans, the military industry complex. You will have the possibility to discuss the details with colleagues from the Council of Ministers,” Borissov said.

Earlier today Armin Papperger and the Rheinmetall delegation met President Rumen Radev.

The delegation has a meeting at the Council of Ministers with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at which the possibilities for the fulfilment of joint projects for the development of the defense industry and for investments that will benefit the modernization of the Bulgarian army will be discussed.
