The first patient injured in a disco fire in Kocani, the Republic of North Macedonia, and treated at the Pirogov Emergency Hospital has been discharged, the hospital confirmed on Wednesday. A total of 15 patients were brought to Bulgaria for treatment after the fire which broke out at the Pulse nightclub in the early hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025. 

“The boy, aged 15 was admitted after the first eight patients from Kocani initially hospitalized in Pirogov. The child had a serious burn on the forearm which required hospital treatment,” Pirogov Director Valentin Dimitrov told journalists on March 18.

Fourteen of the persons injured in the fire remain for treatment in Bulgaria. Eight at the Pirogov Emergency Hospital, three at the Military Medical Academy in Varna and three at the St. George Hospital in Plovdiv.

The Director of Pirogov explained that out of the eight people who are currently being treated at the hospital, two have been extubated. Dimitrov said that at this stage no prognosis can be made on the patients' condition, but that all necessary care is being taken to improve it.

A total of 59 people died and 155 suffered varying degrees of burns and injuries in the Kocani disco fire. Most of the victims were aged between 14 and 25. The fire was caused by sparks from pyrotechnics used for lighting effects. Hundreds of people rushed to the only exit as flames engulfed the roof of the building.
