At the invitation of Governor of Edirne Yunus Sezer, Regional Governor of Sofia Stefan Arsov paid an official visit to the Turkish city. The two officials discussed the deepening of bilateral cooperation, the Sofia Regional Administration said on Wednesday. 

The meeting focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and culture, while the possibilities of joint initiatives to promote regional development were also discussed.

The governors discussed potential opportunities for trade partnerships, investment facilitation and the promotion of cultural exchange programmes aimed at strengthening ties between the two regions. In this regard, they also commented on the prospects of signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between Sofia and Edirne to formalize future joint projects and initiatives of the two cities.

During his visit, the Governor of Sofia also met with the Vice President of Turkiye, Cevdet Yilmaz. Among the topics of the talks were the expansion of economic ties between Bulgaria and Turkiye, regional security and cooperation on strategic initiatives contributing to the stability and development of the Balkans, as well as strategies for sustainable urban development and good management practices to improve the quality of life in both Sofia and Edirne, the regional government explained. 

Stefan Arsov expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and stressed the importance of the ongoing dialogue between Bulgaria and Turkiye. He said that Sofia is ready to work closely with Edirne to achieve common goals in the areas of economic growth, cultural enrichment and regional stability.

This visit represents an important step towards strengthening the partnership between Sofia and Edirne, creating conditions for expanding cooperation that will bring benefits to both cities and their communities, the Sofia Governor noted.
