Thirty-five pistols, some of them unassembled, as well as cartridges and magazines were seized by customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing checkpoint during an inspection of a car entering the country, the Customs Agency said on Wednesday.

On March 10, at about 3:30 pm, a passenger car with Dutch registration, travelling from Turkiye to the Netherlands, arrived at the Customs checkpoint Lesovo. The car was driven by a Turkish citizen, and the passenger in the car had dual citizenship - Turkish and North Macedonian.

The vehicle and the persons were selected for a thorough customs check, during which the customs inspectors found that a total of 35 pistols, 10 live cartridges and 3 magazines were being carried in two backpacks.

Work on the case is continuing. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor's Office.

I.M., a citizen of Turkiye and North Macedonia, who was a passenger in the car, was detained for 72 hours.
