Speaking to reporters in the corridors of Parliament on Wednesday, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning Chair Delyan Peevski warned that "ten MPs will be taken away if a party that lacks the necessary votes is unlawfully brought into Parliament". Peevski was commenting on the ongoing controversy surrounding the recalculation of the results from the October 2024 parliamentary elections.
According to Peevski, an attempt is being made to "illegally insert a party" into Parliament. "If this happens in such a way, it constitutes a crime against the Constitution," he stressed. "Who is trying to push them in? It must be determined who made this decision and how it was carried out because this is being done with a specific goal – to undermine the state," he argued. "If someone wants to form a party and participate in elections, they should do so legitimately, not through other parties," he added.
The Velichie (Grandeur) party, according to Peevski, "has no value, it will merely serve as a small tool in the hands of someone seeking to destabilize the country". He further claimed that if Velichie enters [Parliament], it will be primarily due to votes "unlawfully taken" from MRF – New Beginning. "These [missing] ballots should be found, counted, and then it will become clear that Velichie does not enter," he insisted. "It is only right for the Constitutional Court to wait, locate the ballots, and then allow the Central Election Commission and Information Services to recalculate the results to determine whether Velichie actually enters," Peevski concluded.
At an extraordinary parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, the leadership of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and Information Services were questioned regarding the case filed with the Constitutional Court challenging the legality of the October 27, 2024, elections for the 51st National Assembly.
