The French company Alstom has been selected to supply delivery of 35 electric multiple unit trains, said Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov during Question Time in the Parliament on Friday.
“Currently, we are waiting for the appeal time to expire and if there are no appeals, we will invite Alstom to sign the contract,” Karadjov said. He said that the European Commission has confirmed that all trains that will be delivered by the end of August 2026 will be paid fully under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the rest will be paid with national funds.
The deadline for the contract is 28 months and only Alstom has said that they can manage within that time, Karadjov said.
In May 2024, the Transport Ministry said that four companies, PESA, Alstom, Skoda and Stadler Polska, had submitted bids for the procurement of 35 multiple-unit trains in a direct negotiation tender under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
