We need to find the ways in which the recognized needs of the Bulgarian army can be fulfilled as a matter of priority by the Bulgarian enterprises in the defence industry - from ammunition, equipment maintenance and acquisition of new capabilities, and certainly production in the country of all types of drones, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev told Parliament on Friday in response to a question from the GERB-UDF parliamentary group to provide details on the activities and links of the newly emerging Centre for Defence Innovation. The Centre will be housed in Sofia Tech Park.
"The ability of a country to produce arms and ammunition is part of its security," Donchev said, adding that over the years Bulgaria has maintained a strong export-oriented military industry.
In his view, there cannot be a clash between state and private companies in the defence industry, as it is important to mobilize all available scientific and industrial capacity.
