Bulgaria’s top female tennis player, Viktoriya Tomova, secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Serbia’s Olga Danilović in the first round of the Indian Wells Open in the U.S. with a prize fund of nearly USD 9 million.

This marks Tomova’s second win in four encounters against Serbia’s No. 1 player, with both of her victories coming in the past month. In early February, the two played at the tournament in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where Tomova also emerged victorious.

In the second round in Indian Wells, Tomova will face 29th seed Maria Sakkari of Greece, who received a first-round bye. The two have met five times before, with Sakkari leading their head-to-head 4-1.

With her win over Danilović, Tomova earned 35 WTA ranking points and collected USD 35,260 in prize money.
