In January 2025, retail trade in Bulgaria increased by 8.1% compared to January 2024. This was the second most significant annual growth among the EU Member States, with only Luxembourg expanding by more (11.4%) in January, according to Eurostat's latest initial data on the index of the volume of retail trade, reflecting changes in retailers' turnover.
In Bulgaria, the retail trade volume in January 2025 compared to December 2024 grew by 0.1%. On a monthly basis, retail trade in Bulgaria gained 0.4% in December, according to revised Eurostat data. At the beginning of February, the agency initially reported a 0.5% increase at the end of last year.
Retail trade volume fell by 0.2% in the EU and by 0.3% in the euro area in January 2025, compared to December of 2024.
The data are calendar and seasonally adjusted and adjusted for inflation.
Retail trade increased by 1.6%, year-on-year, in the EU and by 1.5% in the euro area.
Eurostat raises its estimate for retail trade in the EU and the euro area in December 2024, with month-on-month levels now reported to be unchanged from the initially recorded decline of 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. On an annual basis, the December figures have been revised upwards, from 2% in the EU and by 1.9% in the euro area to 2.3% and 2.2%, respectively.
