site.btaFinance Minister Petkova Meets with German, Danish Counterparts in Brussels


Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova held bilateral meetings with her German counterpart Jorg Kukies and her Danish counterpart Stephanie Lose as part of her participation in the meeting of the Eurogroup in Brussels, the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance reported on Monday.
Petkova briefed the two ministers on the progress of Bulgaria's preparations for the introduction of the euro on January 1, 2026. Kukies said that Germany's support for Bulgaria's eurozone membership has been consistent since the Bulgaria's inclusion in the ERM II currency mechanism. Denmark, as the future holder of the presidency of the Council of the European Union, is committed to assisting organizationally in the accession process, the Finance Ministry said.
Earlier Monday, Petkova said in Brussels that Bulgaria will make a formal request to the European Commission and the European Central Bank to prepare ad hoc convergence reports on the country's euro area membership by the end of February.
During the meetings, Petkova discussed the priority legislation for increasing the EU's competitiveness. The conversation with Kukies focused on the first omnibus package aimed at simplifying companies' sustainability reporting obligations. Stephanie Lose presented the priorities of the upcoming Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union. She and Petkova discussed topics from the Economic and Financial Affairs Council's agenda.
