Bulgarian Trade Union Leader
Elected Vice-President of
International Labour Conference

June 11 (BTA) - Bulgarian Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB) President Plamen Dimitrov was elected Worker Vice-President of the 108th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), which is taking place in Geneva, June 10-21.

Dimitrov is the first Eastern European to hold this post, the CITUB said in a press release on Tuesday. He has been a member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization since 2014.

The 108th ILC Session claims the attention of all world leaders, as it marks the centenary of the ILO and seeks to outline the directions in which the world of work will develop during the new century.

"I accept this nomination as a token of recognition for both Bulgaria and the work of the CITUB as a whole. I hope this historic Conference will bring some great news about the world of work, like the Convention concerning the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work and the Future of Work Report, which will outline the directions for development for the next 100 years. This is a huge responsibility for me, as Conference Vice-President, as well as for Bulgaria, which will be an important factor during the discussions," Dimitrov commented.

The 108th Conference opened on Monday with a statement by ILO Director-General Guy Ryder. IG/DT
