Bulgarian National Assembly Chair Attends
53rd Plenary Session of General
Assembly with PABSEC

June 20 (BTA) - Bulgarian National Assembly Chair Tsveta Karayancheva attended the opening ceremony of the 53rd plenary session of the General Assembly with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), the Bulgarian Parliament said Thursday in a press release. The forum takes place on June 20 and 21 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

As of July 1, 2019, the Bulgarian National Assembly takes up the PABSEC Presidency, which will continue for six months.

Karayancheva said in her speech that the PABSEC session aims to strengthen the economic relations in the Black Sea region and to encourage the productive interparliamentary dialogue.

Karayancheva noted the importance of the forum's topic on strengthening the role of parliaments for increasing sustainable energy in the Black Sea region. "We have witnessed global processes where countries' aspirations for a quick economic growth lead to continuous depletion of natural resources and cause climate change," the National Assembly Chair warned. According to her, this calls for adopting new policies aimed at open, competitive and ecologically effective productions that aid the sustainable development of the Black Sea region.

"In these conditions, parliaments are expected to continue their active search for effective cooperation in sustainable energy, led by the principle that this could serve as a foundation for the overall strengthening of relations between the countries, for guaranteeing stability, and for increasing sustainable energy in the broad Black Sea region," Karayancheva noted.

Attending the forum are the head of the Bulgarian delegation in PABSEC, Petar Kanev, Bulgaria-Azerbaijan parliamentary Friendship Group Chair Hamid Hamid, Bulgarian delegation deputy leader Pavel Hristov, and MPs Krassimir Velchev, Nikolay Alexandrov and Ramadan Atalay. IG/TH
