Germany supports Bulgaria's economic integration with the European family, including its membership in Schengen and its future entry into the eurozone, said the Ambassador of Germany to Bulgaria, Irene Maria Plank. She was speaking at the annual reception of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce held at the University of National and World Economy on Thursday evening. The Bulgarian News Agency is a media partner of the event.
Plank emphasized Germany's key role as Bulgaria's largest trading partner. She described Bulgaria's entry into the Schengen Area at the beginning of 2025 as "historic," noting that it is a major achievement for both Bulgaria and Europe. Schengen membership also reflects Bulgaria's commitment to further integration with the European family, Plank added.
"The next step in economic integration is adopting the euro. We are firm in our position that if Bulgaria meets the necessary criteria, it should join the eurozone. You have our full support," the Ambassador concluded.
