site.bta20,000 Traffic Violations Registered in Less than a Week across Bulgaria

Sofia, June 22 (BTA) - After less than a week of a traffic enforcement campaign across the country, traffic police reported over 20,000 violations, said the Bulgarian National TV on Saturday. The campaign was launched on June 17 and ends at midnight on Saturday to Sunday. Half of the violations established during the campaign are related to speeding.

In the course of several days, 75 serious traffic accidents occurred that left 12 people dead and 89 injured.

The most frequent cause of death is inappropriate speed. Ever more often, serious traffic accidents involve young drivers.

The traffic along Bulgaria's motorways remains heavy. The traffic police said they will increase the presence of patrols on busies days.

Additional police officers have been sent to work at the seaside.
