in Summer,
Survey Shows


Sofia, July 3 (BTA) - Average statistics show that road accidents increase by 20 per cent in the summer months of July and August compared to the other months of the year. That is why it is important to warn people they should be more careful and tolerant on the road, the Chair of the State Agency for Road Safety, Malina Kroumova, said. She was presenting the results of the second SDIndex (safe Drive Index) initiative, the agency said on Wednesday.

The survey was organized by SDI Broker with project partners the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communication, the Ministry of Education and Science the State Agency for Road Safety and the Association of Psychologists in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The survey aims to introduce a national index to determine the risks in the conduct of drivers in Bulgaria.

This year's edition covered over 56,000 drivers.

Deputy Transport Minister Angel Popov said that the tests and training courses of young drivers who have been part of road accidents within three years after they have received their licences are being checked.

Over 40 per cent of the established violations last year involved excessive speed, and a total of 1.3 million were registered in 2018, Inspector Maria Boneva of the Traffic Police said.

This year the survey also covered truck and bus drivers. It is also the first time it is conducted online, which helped increase the number of participants and more objective answers. The aim is to jointly find mechanisms for the conduct of drivers together with the various institutions./IG/BR/МЙ/
