site.btaParliament Overrides President's Veto on Revisions to Black Sea Coast Development Act

July 10 (BTA) - In a 143-66 vote with one abstention
Parliament Wednesday overrode President Rumen Radev's veto on
amendments to the Black Sea Coast Development Act.

The amendments concern rules for wild camping. The veto came
amid environmentalists' protests against what some see as new
restrictions for nature-loving vacationing and a failure to
protect the coast against over-development.

In Wednesday's vote only the opposition Bulgarian Socialist
Party (BSP) supported the veto.

The regulations are expected to be complemented by an ordinance
in respect of the terms and procedure for determining camping
sites and rules for camping there. The ordinance is to be
prepared in coordination by the ministries of tourism,
agriculture, regional development, and environment.

The author of the amendments, United Patriots MP Iskren
Vesselinov, said that sanctions for breaches of the regulations
will start to be imposed a year after entry into force of the
future ordinance. RY/ZH
