His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony of Western and Central Europe received on Wednesday Nathaniel Copsey, Ambassador of Great Britain to Bulgaria, at an official meeting in the Palace of the Holy Synod, the Bulgarian Patriarchate wrote on its website.
During the meeting, several issues were raised related to the common activities and initiatives between Bulgaria and Great Britain, as well as the challenges facing the world - military conflicts, insecurity and aggression. "In times of conflicts and wars, we must be carriers of peace," Metropolitan Anthony said, stressing that the Orthodox Church preaches and prays for the establishment of peace and love in the whole world, and hopes that military conflicts in the world will be stopped. Metropolitan Anthony also talked about the construction of the Bulgarian Church in London, which is to be consecrated in 2025.
Ambassador Copsey, who took office in August of 2024, shared his impressions of Bulgaria. "It is an honour and a privilege to be in your country," he said and underlined his deep respect for Bulgarian traditions, language and culture.
Metropolitan Antony presented Ambassador Copsey with a commemorative coin issued on the occasion of the centenary of the consecration of the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
The reception ended with wishes for a merry Christmas. Hopes were also expressed for the establishment of more joint initiatives between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the British Embassy, as well as for the strengthening of the Bulgarian community on the Island.
