site.btaMRF - New Beginning Leader: Enough of Chicanery, Elections Are the Way to Go
Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski on Tuesday called for new parliamentary elections after the snap vote on October 27, arguing that “the time for chicanery is over.”
“In this failed 51st Parliament, we will nominate neither a chairperson nor a deputy chairperson of the National Assembly, and we don’t want to put up chairpersons in parliamentary committees – nothing that would keep us involved in this ‘game of thrones’ which is insulting to voters. I call on those failed politicians to come forward tomorrow [on Wednesday], assume the responsibility and elect a chairperson of the National Assembly in order to set off the constitutional procedure and let us move towards elections,” Peevski said in a media statement released by the MRF-New Beginning Coalition.
He commented: “Four weeks, eight plenary days and more than 30 votes in the Bulgarian Parliament have exposed the dire helplessness of politicians and parties ready to betray their country, the people’s trust and the future of the nation’s children while clinging to positions and power. They drew demarcation lines, cordons and barriers and attempted all kinds of unprincipled alliances, arrangements and intrigue, small and big. They cast spells, uttered oaths and made promises about common battlefronts and shared gains as well as safeguards for a bogus political elite as they relinquished justice, responsibility and values. They set up unimaginable alliances with the pro-Russian and anti-democratic parties.”
According to Peevski, this is a crime against democratic principles and Euro-Atlantic values. “This weak scenario has inflicted serious damage by undermining parliamentarism and statehood. It should stop, and we should move towards elections,” he said. “Bulgaria and the people’s living are at stake.”
He is confident that the next elections will change Bulgaria. “The nation needs this real change, and we will help the country recover from the political time vacuum and the deep crisis of the political Establishment. The people want to be guided by leaders, not cowards. Bulgaria should be governed by individuals with a heart who can, and do, assume responsibility. I want to use this early opportunity as leader of MRF-New Beginning to say that if we receive the trust of the people, I will take the responsibility,” Peevski said.
