The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry Wednesday expressed its condolences for the lives lost in the devastating floods in Spain on its official social media account, X. "We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish a prompt recovery to those affected by the disaster," the Foreign Ministry said.

At least 63 people have died in floods in eastern Spain after rushing waters swept away cars, turned the streets of many villages into rivers and destroyed railways and motorways on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported, estimating it was the country's worst disaster in years.

According to the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Valencia, there are currently no reports of Bulgarian citizens killed or injured, the Foreign Ministry's press office told BTA. There have been no reports of Bulgarian nationals in need. The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Valencia is in constant contact with the competent Spanish authorities and Civil Protection, the Foreign Ministry added.

The European Union is "ready to help" Spain, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
