The Bulgarian caretaker government is monitoring the situation in Spain in connection with the flash floods that have taken lives and caused destruction in the country, the Government Information Service said Thursday. The Bulgarian institutions are ready to provide assistance to the Spanish side on the orders of caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
In case of a request for support from the authorities in Madrid, the civil protection mechanism will be activated immediately to provide the necessary assistance. Tents, blankets and other essential supplies can also be provided by the Bulgarian State in the short term, the press release reads.
Floods in Spain have claimed 95 lives, provisional figures show. Meteorologists say parts of Valencia were hit with as much rain within eight hours on Wednesday as usually falls in a year.
