“I love crickets. As long as there are crickets, there is hope that the world exists,” said Kiril Marichkov in 1991. The rock legend, who passed away on October 11, would have turned 80 on Wednesday.
On this occasion, The Foundation are giving a concert in their frontman’s memory on Wednesday in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK).
In the 1970s, Marichkov was among the founders of The Shturtsite (The Crickets) which remained a hugely popular rock band for decades. He also wrote film music, co-founded the only Bulgarian radio for rock music, Radio Tangra (later renamed Radio Gong), even sat in Parliament. In 2013 Marichkov formed a band called Fondatsiata (The Foundation) with other famous Bulgarian rock musicians, with which he performed to his last day. In 2020, he received the highest state award - the Order of Stara Planina - for his outstanding services in the field of culture and art.
