The restoration of the functions of the State will be at the heart of any kind of talks for BSP - United Left, the coalition's chairman Atanas Zafirov said at a press conference on Tuesday, where an analysis of the election results was made.

“Let the parties from the right political space offer their alternative, views on the development of the country,” Atanas Zafirov said. He added that a coalition government is inevitable, given the vote of the Bulgarian citizens.  In his words, participation in talks on governance requires a decision of collective bodies, which for the BSP are the National Council and Congress, plus the sanction of the newly formed Coalition Council. In addition, their programme, which represents Bulgaria’s left-wing alternative, must be put on the negotiating table and recognized as one of the pillars for the future development of the country. Other important topics for the Left are fighting corruption, demography, energy, social policy, national security.

Atanas Zafirov expressed optimism that a regular government will be formed at last, because this is the wish of the Bulgarian citizens. He assured that the BSP - United Left’s efforts and actions will be entirely in this direction.

The coalition leader reported that the creation of the United Left was the adequate and right decision and it has given its results. “We stopped the disintegration in the left, we reversed the trend,” he pointed out and thanked the voters for their support.

The left alliance reported a very good balance in the structuring of its lists, although it retains roughly the same number of MPs in the 51st parliament. “In this campaign we raised the issue of the role of the State and the restoration of its functions,” Atanas Zafirov stressed.

Asked who the potential partners of the formation in the new parliament would be, floor leader Borislav Gutsanov said the collective bodies will be the ones who will decide what to do from now on, adding that they are hoping for wise and just dialogue.

Maya Manolova, coalition partner in BSP - United Left, drew attention to the issue of vote buying and commented that there were many bought and controlled votes in the elections.
