site.btaMECh Leader Vasilev Calls for Anti-GERB and Anti-MRF Majority in New Parliament

Radostin Vasilev, leader of the Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) party, called for an anti-GERB majority and an anti-Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) majority in the 51st National Assembly at a briefing here on Monday, held in front of Sofia's St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Regarding an anti-GERB and anti-MRF majority, Vasilev expressed confidence that there will be such a majority and it will be between 140 and 150 MPs. In his words, it is the responsibility of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), who will be second, to invite all the others to form a majority against [GERB leader Boyko] Borissov, [MRF-New Beginning's Delyan] Peevski and [MRF Honorary Chairman and leader of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms Ahmed] Dogan. This is the battle that must be fought in Bulgaria before all other reforms, Vasilev argued.

He added that this majority will be completed with anti-corruption legislation, with the removal of acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and with an absolute attack on the Supreme Judicial Council. "We propose this majority. All others, except GERB and MRF, can form such a majority," Vasilev said.

He insisted on the signing of a clear coalition agreement. From his potential partners in the [possible future] government, Vasilev asked only for the Ministry of Interior. "We have only one requirement and that is that the Ministry of Interior is MECh's, so that I can implement the promises I made in the election campaign - to bring down the Borissov and Peevski model to its knees," he said, adding that when MECh governs, there will be a ministry of fairness and it will manage all the power structures - the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime, the State Agency for National Security. Asked if he would be this minister of fairness, Vasilev said that he would not mind to assume this responsibility.

Radostin Vasilev said that on the very first day of the 51st National Assembly's work they will make a proposal to scrap the immunity of MPs, as well as a proposal for the nationalization of Lukoil, whose profits, according to him, amount to BGN 7 billion. "Here is a Recovery and Resilience Plan directly from the Bulgarian State," Vasilev said.

Vasilev thanked the nearly 112,000 Bulgarians who voted for his party.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Vasilev pointed out that MECh is in favour of Bulgaria maintaining absolute neutrality.
