Blue Bulgaria top-of-the-list candidate in Haskovo Tsveta Kirilova sent a statement to BTA on Thursday, saying that in order to overcome the negative effect of financial drain on the social system, a thorough revision of disability pensions by the National Social Security Institute is needed.

Kirilova pointed out that the number of decisions of expert medical committees on disability has grown significantly in the last decade, and verification of their authenticity is necessary to intercept and eliminate the rights to so-called fake disability pensions.

She stressed that the purpose of the audit is to identify possible abuses and to limit the improper spending of public funds, ensuring that disability pensions are granted only to people who really need them. "Fake disability pensions increase the number of people who receive benefits without being entitled to them. This burdens the pension insurance system, leading to a shortage of funds for the truly needy and undermines the ability to support vulnerable groups", stated Kirilova.
